BELLAIRE SW Houston Rotary Club donates $2,750 TO JELA school of Haiti, for water treatment

The Bellaire SouthWest Houston Rotary Club has provided a grant in the amount of $2750 to a Living Waters for the World and Solar Under the Sun Houston Texas team to help pay for the installation of a water treatment system at the JeLA school in Limbe, Haiti.

Bellaire SouthWest Houston Rotary last year provided $6000 to pay for a well that will provide the water source for the water treatment system.  Three BSWH Rotary Club members are part of the LWW/SUTS team that will travel to Haiti for the water system installation: John Freeman, Surpris Cherazard and Don Beckner.

The installation will take place August 21-28, 2010. The installation team will include nine persons from the US. JeLA  will participate in the installation and will operate the system. JeLA staff have built the building that will house the system. The system will be powered by sunlight and will not require power from an electric grid or generator.

The water system will be the property of Jela and will provide between 300 and 600 gallons of clean drinking water per day in 5 gallon bottles. It is planned that the system will also include a tank containing unprocessed well water that can be used for washing. The total cost of the water treatment system is over $22,000.
